Question:

Can FinalData restore a drive that has problems booting up?

Answer:

No, FinalData is "data" recovery software, it does not repair boot problems. Boot problems can occur due to a damaged Master Boot Record (MBR), virus attacks, or corrupt Windows system and/or driver files.
FinalData can however, recover files and folders from drives that are affected by any of the above mentioned problems.

Please see Related Topics for more help on this matter.

Procedure:

To recover files from a drive that is not booting up follow these steps:

  • Determine if the drive is physically damaged.
  • If the hard disk is not physically damaged, detach the affected drive and attach it to a system with a working operating system installed (preferably the same Operating System).
  • Install FinalData and run the program.
  • Click on the Physical Drive Tab and choose the affected drive.
  • Click on Find Format.
  • On the Select sector range to search window choose an approximate location where the affected partition is expected to be located, if you are not sure, than select the default range.
  • On the Boot Sector Found window click on Select Format to continue with a disk scan.
